Come Thou Fount Personalized Plaque

A young man contacted me and wanted to reproduce the sheet music from this wonderful hymn. It is
a favorite of mine. It comes from the same time period as many great American Hymns such as Amazing
Grace. The hymn was penned by the 18th century hymnist and pastor Robert Robinson. Robinson wrote
the hymn at the age of twenty-two in 1757. I was always moved by the line “Prone to wander, Lord
I feel it. Prone to leave the God I love.” A statement of torment rarely seen in hymns. However
considering conditions just before the Civil War this is altogether understandable. There is a story
that years later while riding in a carriage with a young woman who was humming this now popular hymn,
Robinson said: “Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who wrote that hymn many years ago, and I would give
a thousand worlds, if I had them, to enjoy the feelings I had then.” Had Robinson wandered? He died
shortly after in 1790.

Now there was a problem with sheet music. It is very difficult to obtain a resolution high enough
to obtain a crisp engraving. I decided to transcribe the music, note by note in order to accomplish
this.( Ok I am a fanatic or just stubborn). I chose a wonderful piece of curly maple as to me it has
the look of parchment.

My happy customer stated; “I can’t thank you enough for the plaque. I know Laura will love it. It
looks stunning! If there is any feedback page or comment section of your website, please send it to
me. I would love to let people know how great your work is!”
