My Newest Wood Signs, Wood Desk Plaques and Gifts

A little over a year ago, a good customer contacted me and asked if I could make a stand up plaque. It seemed her son was heading off to college and for some reason they frown on the practice of drilling holes in the wall to hang plaques. I told her I would see what I could do. It was not long after this that another very good customer contacted me and requested a small plaque that might sit on a desk or shelf. She was thinking of a large name plate like one often sees on desks.

One day I was stacking some cutoff pieces from the 3 inch flitches I use to re-saw materials for boxes, when I noticed that several of these were 3" x 3" squares of lumber, too small for boxes and not wide enough for a plaque. I wondered what would happen if I split one diagonally, resulting in two triangle shaped pieces with the long face being about 4" (Thank you Pythagoras). So here are little 4" x 8" inch desk plaques! I have made about a dozen of these for folks and they are really charming. I place natural cork on the bottom, so as to not scratch the surface where they sit. Just about any of my 6" x 12" plaques can be made into a desk plaque. Just imagine a Thoreau Plaque or my Vast Sea Plaque on a desk plaque.
